Trip so far

Mom is having a problem getting some pictures up loaded so I will tell you what we have done so far.

Saturday afternoon on our way to Appomattox , we stop at a house called Red Hill. It was the home of Patrick Henry. You know the guy who said " Give me Liberty or give me Death". It was a great big wide open farm, the people were nice and let me walking around. Even in the buildings. Hopefully mom can get those pictures up soon. It is amazing how small the houses were for such big family, he had like 12 kids!!!

We stayed at a great state park near Appomattox called Holiday Lake. It was our first night in the rv. Guess what happened , there was a thunderstorm, and you know how I love those. But I was a true champ, didn't pant, scratch , bark or anything. I found a great place to sleep in the bathroom.

Sunday morning we got up real early, we had a lot of places to see. First stop Appomattox Courthouse. This is where General Lee surrendered to General Grant at the end of the Civil War. The courthouse and the McLean house both have been rebuilt after the town went into disrepair and fires. The ranger at the front entrance gave me two treats. Service at our National Parks it great!!! They were having a musket demonstration which caught me off guard the first time the gun went off. I was about to head all the way back to Georgia, but I became a pro of ignoring the sounds after the first one.

Next stop Natural Bridge Virginia. We had heard this was going to be a real tacky place. There is a huge rock with a gap underneath and cars can drive over the stop. There is a wax museum and factory, gift shop, and haunted mansion. Dad was really interested in the haunted museum, they had something about rednecks looking for Big foot.

We then travelled north to Lexington Virginia. This town is home to several colleges . Washington and Lee University is located here. This is the college my Dad's Pop went to. General Lee was president of the college when he died, he is buried here, along with his horse Traveller.

VMI (Virginia Military ) is right next door. General Stonewall Jackson was a professor at VMI and his horse is stuffed and in the museum. The General home is also located in downtown Lexington.

Also we stopped for BBQ for dinner in Verona at Rack em on our way to Charlottesville. Before heading to the campground, we toured the beautifully campus of the University of Virginia. It was designed by Thomas Jefferson and land given to the school by James Monroe.

Here is Stonewall Jackson's horse.
